Welcome to 1st Grade
Hello and Welcome to Trinity!
My name is Rachel Goodpasture and I am the first grade teacher at Trinity. I graduated from Concordia University in Seward, NE in 2009 and then began my teaching career here in first grade! In the summer of 2014, I graduated with my Master’s of Education as a Reading Specialist from Fort Hays State University. I am married to Adam, who is a Physical Therapist at the Atchison Hospital.
First grade is a huge year of learning! We learn basic math facts as well as how to regroup when we add and subtract. We do a big unit about the oceans in Science as well as a unit about Thanksgiving in Social Studies. We also learn many other things in these two areas. A main part of our day is spent on Reading. We start by reading a few words and words that are easy to sound out, and by the end of the year several students are reading longer stories, beginning chapter books, and full chapter books! Students are involved in centers during small group time and are also introduced to spelling this year! We also go on several educational field trips throughout the year! Of course, the most important part of our day is spent during Religion where we learn that Jesus came for all to live a perfect life, die, and rise again on Easter so we can go to heaven! I am very excited to get to know you and your family this year and thank you for choosing Trinity for your child’s education!
